Further training  programs will be developed and will start next year, he told the press conference, adding the university had chosen 48 students via a recent university exam. "Students at the school will also be given refresher courses in English and IT," explained Nhan.

Deputy PM Nhan said a loan  of US$100 million would be sourced from the World  Bank to build the campus for the new university. "Construction will need three years, and the new campus will be finished in 2012,’’ he said.

The school’s inauguration was the highlight of a Vietnam  information  tour by a German delegation headed by the German Hessen State Prime Minister  Roland Koch. The delegation is comprised of senior officials representing the Federal Ministry  of Education  & Research and the German Academic Exchange Service.

A source from the German consulate general  in HCMC said the project was founded on February 29 this year as a cooperation project between Vietnam’s Ministry  of Education  & Training  and the Hessen Ministry  for Higher Education, Research & The Arts.

Wolf Rieck, rector of the new school, said that the university is designed according to German university standards in teaching and research, as well as in governance and administration. He added that a group of German universities would guarantee sustainable academic support to the new school in teaching, research and consultancy.

The Vietnamese-German University is a non-profit Vietnamese  State university. The tuition fees for the Foundation Year and the bachelor program are US$1,500 per year. In 2008, the founding year of the VGU, 50% tuition waivers are available for all students.
